Bassist Mark E. Peterson has conducted, recorded and performed with such luminary vocalists as Shakira, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples, Lyle Lovett, Maxime LeForrestier, Shania Twain, Lizz Wright and Jazz great Cassandra Wilson (playing bass on the Grammy Award winning CD, “New Moon Daughter”).
He has appeared in concerts worldwide with a Who’s Who of jazz and blues instrumentalists, including trumpeter Clark Terry, pianist Johnny Johnson (Chuck Berry), Ornette Coleman and James Blood Ulmer. As a composer, he has received major acclaim for the release of his first cd “The Blue Room”, and has been featured as the opening act for saxophonist David Sanborn and DeeDee Bridgewater. Mark’s major commercial, theatrical and television credits include: Aida, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Miss Saigon, Pippin, MTV, HBO, BET, The Learning Channel, Sesame Street, The Jay Leno Show, The View, Austin City Limits and The Johnny Carson Show.
In 2005, Mark was selected to tour Central Asia and Russia as part of the U.S. Department of State’s “Jazz Ambassadors” Program. Past ambassadors of this distinguished program include Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.
Internationally, Mark continues to be a major musical contributor as a clinician, musical contractor and a technical consultant to music publications and instrument companies. Currently, Mark is an associate musical director for Cirque du Soleil.
